Here in Canada, we had to wait until 1983, when the Hyundai Pony II (the second-generation model) was introduced as an inexpensive option that immediately rocketed to success. Sales projections for the Pony II expected 5,000 sales in 1984; final sales for the year surpassed 25,000!
The Hyundai Stellar joined the Pony II here in Canada, and they both remained popular options in the years that followed until they were replaced by the Hyundai Excel in 1987.
