At River City Hyundai, we are proud to be your Edmonton Hyundai dealership. We offer an incredible selection of new and used Hyundai models, including the Tucson, making us the place to go when you want to drive one of these amazing machines. No matter what kind of driver you are, the Hyundai Tucson has many outstanding features and will be your vehicle of choice. The 2023 model is part of the fourth generation of the Tucson, which was introduced last year. Even so, Hyundai has made some welcome changes to the Tucson for the new model year.

A Standard Powertrain to Give It Some Get Up and Go

The 2023 Hyundai Tucson features a standard powertrain consisting of a Smartstream 2.5-litre I-4 gas engine combined with an eight-speed automatic transmission. This engine has a dual overhead camshaft design with 16 valves for its four cylinders and features variable valve timing to provide efficient performance. It utilizes a combination of port and direct fuel injection to deliver up to 187 hp at 6,100 RPM and 178 lb-ft of torque at 4,000 RPM.

This engine provides exceptional fuel economy. This is due in part to the standard idle stop & go system that shuts down the engine when you are stopped in traffic or at a traffic light. As a result, front-wheel drive models are rated for 8.5 L/100 km combined, while all-wheel drive versions deliver up to 9.3 L/100 km combined. The 2023 Tucson, with the conventional gas engine, is also surprisingly powerful, giving drivers the ability to tow up to 1,588 kg.

Two Exceptional Hybrid Options

For those drivers who want to get even better fuel economy while reducing their greenhouse gas emissions, Hyundai offers two different hybrid options on the 2023 Tucson. These are the Tucson Hybrid and the Tucson Plug-in Hybrid. Both feature a Smartstream 1.6-litre turbocharged engine with a six-speed automatic transmission combined with an electric motor. The hybrid models come standard with all-wheel drive, giving you the benefit of added traction afforded by this type of drivetrain.

The Tucson Hybrid has a 1.5 kWh lithium-ion battery and 44 kW electric motor for a combined output of 226 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. This is a traditional hybrid, with the gas engine providing the majority of the power, and is rated for 6.4 L/100 km combined. The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid uses a much larger 13.8 kWh battery pack and a 67 kW electric motor, giving it a combined output of 261 hp and 258 lb-ft of torque. The larger battery also means it has an estimated electric range of 53 km before you need to switch on the gasoline engine.

An Advanced Infotainment System

Every 2023 Hyundai Tucson comes equipped with an advanced infotainment system and a colour touchscreen. The Essential and Preferred trims feature a 20 cm touchscreen, while the higher trims have a larger 23 cm touchscreen. The Display Audio system allows you to stream your favourite apps using wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. This is the first year that Hyundai has made this feature standard on all trims of the Tucson, a welcome addition for drivers who don’t want to have to deal with annoying charging cables to stay connected.

SiriusXM is included on all versions except the base Essential trim. This gives you access to commercial-free music, news, sports, and talk radio. There is a standard six-speaker sound system on the Essential, Preferred, and Urban trims, which will make your music sound great. However, if you are a true audiophile, you are going to want the Bose Premium Audio System that is standard on the N-Line, Luxury Hybrid, and Ultimate Hybrid. This has a digital eight-channel amplifier with custom equalization designed to provide an exceptional sound mix across the eight speakers strategically located throughout the Tucson’s cabin.

The 2023 Tucson N-Line, Luxury Hybrid, and Ultimate Hybrid also have a built-in navigation system. This will help you get through Edmonton traffic easily with real-time traffic flow data. Just type in your destination and the navigation system will determine the best route based on current traffic information. The 2023 Tucson Ultimate Hybrid adds a standard wireless smartphone charging pad. This will help you and your passengers keep your devices charged on your road trips.

Plenty of Driver-Assist Features

Hyundai keeps improving the safety technology in the Tucson. For the 2023 model year, Hyundai includes Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian and Cyclist Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Following Assist, Driver Attention Warning, and High Beam Assist as standard features on all trims of the Tucson. These are all part of the Hyundai SmartSense suite of advanced driver-assistance features.

Higher trims of the Tucson add Junction-Turning Detection to the Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist system. This lets you know if there is a risk of collision when you are turning left in an intersection. If you don’t immediately respond, the system will engage the emergency brakes to bring your Tucson to a safe stop. If an accident is unavoidable, it will reduce the impact of the crash.

Available Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop-and-Go capability will maintain the speed you set on the system until traffic slows or a slower vehicle gets in front of your Tucson. The system will then slow your vehicle’s speed to match that of the vehicle in front of you. Once the road ahead is clear, the system will increase the speed of your Tucson until it reaches the maximum speed you originally set.

Hyundai has well over a dozen different Hyundai SmartSense driver-assist features available on the 2023 Tucson. Many of the standard features are items you usually have to pay extra for on comparable models from other automakers. This will help you and your passengers stay safe wherever your Tucson takes you.

Exceptional Cargo Space

The 2023 Hyundai Tucson has been designed with plenty of cargo space no matter which version you choose. If you decide to go with one of the conventional gas models, you will get 1,095 litres of trunk space, which can be expanded to 2,119 litres by simply folding down the rear row of seats. This is the most cargo space of any of the Tucson variants. The Tucson Hybrid provides slightly more trunk space at 1,097 litres but only 2,108 litres of cargo space with the rear row folded down. The Tucson Plug-in Hybrid has the least amount of cargo space, although it is still plenty for most drivers’ needs. The trunk holds up to 902 litres of your belongings, and there is a maximum of 1,876 litres of cargo space when the back row is folded down.
