Hyundai TUCSON Dashboard Warning Lights Guide in Edmonton, AB
When a warning light appears on the instrument cluster of your Hyundai TUCSON, it is communicating something specific about the vehicle's condition. Some lights require immediate attention, and others are reminders for routine maintenance. Knowing the difference can help you respond appropriately and avoid unnecessary repair costs down the road. Let us at River City Hyundai in Edmonton tell you more.
Check Engine Light
The check engine light — a small engine icon — is one of the more common lights drivers encounter. It can be triggered by a wide range of issues, from a loose gas cap to a failing oxygen sensor or catalytic converter. When this light comes on steady, the vehicle can typically be driven for a short time, but the cause should be diagnosed soon. If the light is flashing, that usually indicates an active misfire that can damage the catalytic converter, and the vehicle should be brought in without delay. A diagnostic scan will identify the fault code and direct technicians to the root cause.
Battery Warning Light
This light, shaped like a battery, signals that the charging system is not functioning as expected. It does not always mean the battery itself has failed — alternator issues, a worn drive belt, or a poor electrical connection can all trigger it. Once this light comes on, the vehicle may have limited time before power is lost entirely. Turning off non-essential electrical loads and getting to a service center promptly is the recommended course of action.
Oil Pressure Warning Light
The oil can icon is one of the few lights that warrants pulling over immediately and visiting our Service Department. Low oil pressure can lead to serious engine damage within minutes of continued operation along Highway 14. This is not the same as the oil life reminder (which appears as a wrench icon or text message on many TUCSON models). If the oil pressure light comes on while driving, shut the engine off as soon as it is safe to do so and have the vehicle towed. Topping off the oil may resolve the issue if the level is low, but if pressure remains absent after adding oil, the cause is likely mechanical.
Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) Light
The TPMS light — a cross-section of a tire with an exclamation mark — activates when one or more tires fall below the recommended pressure threshold. On the TUCSON, the system monitors each tire individually, and some trim levels will indicate which specific tire is affected. Temperature changes can cause tire pressure to fluctuate, so this light may appear during cold weather even without a puncture. Checking and adjusting all four tires to the recommended PSI (found on the driver's door jamb sticker) will typically reset the system within a short drive.
Electronic Stability Control (ESC) and Traction Control
The ESC indicator — a car with wavy lines beneath it — serves two functions. When it flashes while driving, it means the system is actively working to maintain stability or traction, which is normal behavior on slippery surfaces. When it illuminates and stays on, the system may have been manually turned off or there may be a fault. A continuously lit ESC light with no intentional deactivation should be inspected, as it means vehicle stability assists are not operational.
Brake System Warning Light
This light can indicate several things, such as the parking brake being engaged, low brake fluid, or a fault within the brake system itself. If the parking brake has been released and the light remains on, check the brake fluid reservoir. A drop in fluid level can signal a leak or heavily worn brake pads. Either condition requires prompt attention. The TUCSON also has separate ABS and hill-start assist indicators, which may illuminate alongside the brake light when a related fault is detected.
Temperature Warning Light
A thermometer submerged in liquid indicates the engine is running hotter than normal. If this light comes on during your ride to Muttart Conservatory, turn off the air conditioning and monitor the gauge. If the temperature continues to rise, pull over safely and allow the engine to cool before opening the hood. Continuing to drive an overheating engine can cause warped cylinder heads or a blown head gasket, both of which are costly to repair.
A Note on Warning Light Patterns
Hyundai uses a color-coded system across its models: red lights indicate conditions requiring immediate action, yellow or amber lights indicate caution or a system fault that needs attention soon, and green or blue lights are informational. When any warning light appears and its meaning is unclear, the owner's manual contains a complete reference, and any Hyundai service center can pull diagnostic codes to identify the issue accurately.
Addressing warning lights early typically results in a simpler, less expensive repair than waiting until additional symptoms develop. We are also home to an on-site Parts Department, so you can be sure you will receive OEM accessories.

“ Highly recommend David Henderson. Help me get on the road again ”
“ Nekata is great! ”
“ I recently purchased my Hyundai Kona from River City Hyundai and had an outstanding experience from start to finish. Jordan was professional, knowledgeable, and genuinely took the time to help me find the right vehicle while answering all of my questions. Jazz made sure the entire process went smoothly and was always kind, polite, and helpful. Adam was also fantastic and helped me through every step of the process, making everything easy to understand and stress-free. The team’s professionalism, transparency, and dedication to customer satisfaction truly stood out. I highly recommend River City Hyundai to anyone looking for a smooth, honest, and enjoyable car-buying experience. Five stars all the way! ”
“ Comfortable atmosphere to shop for a car, staff is friendly and very helpful. Thank you for helping with everything. ”
“ My experience with River City Hyundai was outstanding through the entire process from dropping off my keys to picking up my vehicle. Nakita walked me through all the steps and answered all questions and worked with my extended warranty (not the easiest extended warranty company to deal with) to get my approval and my vehicle fixed. The drop off service is fast and very convenient. I will be continue to use the dealership. Thank you again for the fantastic service. ”
“ Giselle and David were a great help in making me feel comfortable with my purchase. ”
“ Giselle was a delight to work with, her customer service was a 10/10 and she knows what she’s talking about, would recommend to everyone looking for a vehicle! ”
“ This is just by way of update. I have purchased my second vehicle from River City Hyundai. While my previous sales representative from a number of years ago is no longer there, I was helped by Kylie. She is extremely pleasant and very helpful. I love that River City does not use any high pressure tactics to sell you a vehicle and even when you are in the finance department, there is no high pressure to purchase add-ons. I like that River City is very willing to negotiate fairly. My experience has always been a comfortable one whenever I went in there. I am amending my last review here based on my most recent visit. I booked a service appointment online and this was a little less than seamless because it seems that the site inputs service work based on your vehicle and mileage. Unfortunately, there does not appear to be any way to delete any unwanted service work. However, this was a minor inconvenience as I was just looking to have a warranty issue checked at the time. The service was impeccable from the time I arrived and assisted by the lovely and helpful advisor, Kyna. Everything was explained, timelines met perfectly and enjoyed my coffee with fresh creamer while waiting for my vehicle. The dealership is roomy, never overcrowded with vehicles, giving you the feeling that they have reserved time for you - highly recommended. ”
“ I had a windshield replaced at River City Hyundai. It was done ahead of schedule and my vehicle was returned cleaned. No issues with the new windshield. Thanks River City Hyundai. ”
“ Mike was fantastic to work with. He was friendly, honest, and made the whole car-buying process stress free. He answered all my questions and made sure I got the right deal I wanted. Highly recommend asking for Mike if you’re looking for great service! ”
“ I purchased 2 brand new Tucsons from River City and 3 used Elantras with low mileage (2017 and 2018 models) for my friends and family from private owners. Have never had any problems with these vehicles except for both rear door locks on the 2017 Elantra. Hyundai just replaced both rear locks at no cost. In my opinion Hyundai supplies a great product at reasonable pricing and River City is a good dealership to deal with. I will be back. ”
“ After having some miscommunication with another separate auto shop, I brought my car in to Hyundai and Nekeita went above and beyond to help me out and reassure me. I appreciate the help and will come back! ”
“ Really appreciate the staff. Jordan and Jazz were extremely helpful, quick and respectful of our time, and fair with our requests. Thanks for everything! ”
“ Just got a new 2026 Santa Fe. The purchase and trade-in process was very smooth and pleasant. Our dealer Giselle was friendly, helpful, and very professional, and even followed up after delivery to check in. Sales Manager Neil and Finance Adam were also efficient and professional, making everything easy and stress-free. We were able to complete everything in one day. Overall, a great experience and highly recommended. Thank you! ”
“ Came in to trade my cx30 for a hyundai kona, Mike Noureddine was a huge help. Mike was knowledgeable, friendly and helped me get a great deal on a new car. Thanks mike. ”
“ My 1st time dealing with the dealership. I can say without a doubt, World Class all the way. From my wifes call to receiving me when I entered the dealership was exceptional. The service advisor Nikkita was nothing less than amazingly help, knowledgeable, caring, receptive and made the whole experience great. Hyundai might be my next vehicle. ”
“ Just picked up a new Tucson and love it. Everyone at River City is top notch from their sales team to their financial manager to their service staff. If you want a deal and you want to have a good experience while making said deal - definitely check out David, Jaz, and Jason who I dealt with. Even the staff who greet you and make you feel at home as soon as you arrive are amazing. I've gone in for service a few times and it's easy to book (on-line) and the service staff are just as great as the sales team. Great sales, great service - what more could you want from a dealership? Worth your while to check out River City Hyundai. ”
“ Nekeita was very helpful and amazing She did help me reduce my bill and get the right diagnostic Thanks again ”
“ Final Update – Case Resolved After approximately seven months, my case was ultimately resolved. Following extensive escalation with Hyundai Canada, they approved and covered the replacement of the failed engine with a complete new OEM engine at no cost to me. The process was long and frustrating. My 2022 Hyundai Tucson Ultimate Hybrid experienced a catastrophic engine failure at approximately 120,000 km, and the vehicle remained out of service for several months while the case was reviewed and parts were backordered. I also had concerns because Hyundai would not provide a separate warranty or guarantee specifically covering the replacement engine. After the engine replacement, there were a few additional issues, including work involving the EGR system and a later electrical shutdown caused by a loose connection at the fuse box. These issues were addressed, and the vehicle has since been running well. Although I remain concerned by the number of reported issues involving Hyundai’s 1.6L turbo hybrid engine, and I believe greater transparency and investigation may still be warranted, I also want to acknowledge that Hyundai Canada ultimately stepped up and provided a meaningful resolution in my case. My advice to other owners remains the same: document your maintenance carefully, escalate your case when necessary, and report serious engine failures to Transport Canada so potential trends can be properly tracked. I originally gave Hyundai a one-star rating because of the uncertainty and frustration surrounding the situation. In light of the final resolution and Hyundai Canada covering the complete engine replacement, I am updating my rating to four stars. The lengthy process and lack of a clear warranty on the replacement engine prevent me from giving a full five stars, but I do appreciate the assistance that was ultimately provided. ”
“ This is a great dealership, with very friendly staff and professional. I originally bought my first Hyundai at a different dealership, and it was a whole different story, and I decided to get my oil and filters done at Riverside Hyundai, and the whole experience was next level. I made the determination that if I was gonna get another vehicle from Hyundai, it would be there. Their facilities are absolutely beautiful. But onto the most important part: the staff that I dealt with there consistently were friendly, and professional, and accommodating. It does not have the typical cheesy type of sales approach, it was a very nice experience. The salesperson Mike, who sold me the vehicle and to the person who assisted me with delivering the vehicle, they were first class So thank you to Mike, and Adam, the finance manager, and Ray. There was one small difference between what was presented to me as the offer and what was actually on the car at the time of delivery, and I made a suggestion on how to adjust for the value, and they approved of it, so here’s my point: nobody’s perfect, and if you expect perfection, you’re never going to find it, but the dealership seems to be reasonable when mistakes are made to make it up, and this is super important in any sales environment I encourage you, if you’re looking for a car dealership that will have great staff, great experience, beautiful facilities, etc., I would definitely buy my car here if you’re buying Hyundai. You will not be disappointed by a car from the dealership, and will probably become loyal there for many years ”
“ Overall great service and Ashley was awesome. Only giving it a 4 because I would have liked to know about the recall being worked on too rather than wait thinking they were still doing the oil change ”
“ Get anything they offering in writing.. Edit- after working with Ajay, my issues were resolved. Happy to have future business with River City Hyundai ”
“ Didn’t meet the expectations for the work I requested. I take a day off for the work they made they said only weekdays they have the tech. To look after the issue ”
“ Google Review will be posted shortly. ”
“ I recently moved from Ontario and took my vehicle to River City Hyundai for a routine service appointment. During the visit, I informed the service advisor that I believed there might be an issue with the rear brakes or brake caliper and asked if they could inspect it. The advisor explained that a brake inspection would be covered under my Hyundai extended warranty only after an inspection, and that there would be a diagnostic fee of $149. I agreed to the inspection. Later that day, I was informed that no issues were found with the brakes or calipers. As a goodwill gesture, the advisor reduced the inspection fee from $149 to $100. Some time later, I noticed that the center cap on one of my rear wheels was missing. During my next service appointment, I mentioned to the same advisor that it may have come off when the rear wheels were removed during the previous brake inspection. The advisor checked with the technicians and later informed me that the wheels had never been removed. I was also told that the brake and caliper inspection had been completed without removing the wheels. I was very surprised by this explanation. Throughout the several years I owned and serviced my vehicle in Ontario, brake inspections always involved removing the wheels to properly examine the brake pads, rotors, and calipers. Since I was charged for this inspection, I expected it to be carried out thoroughly and according to professional standards. My primary concern is safety. Braking components are critical, and if an issue had been overlooked because the inspection was not performed properly, it could have put both my family and me at risk. Due to this experience, I have lost confidence in the quality of service provided by River City Hyundai. I have already escalated this matter to Hyundai Canada and intend to continue pursuing the complaint, as I no longer feel comfortable having my vehicle serviced or inspected at this dealership ”
“ I do not recommend buying any car from this dealership at all, especially do not rely on any warranty they provide. My experience was extremely bad; after purchasing, they did not honor the warranty, and no support or repairs were provided as promised. It is best to avoid this dealership completely and not deal with them at all." ”
“ This was one of the worst dealership experiences I've ever had. I brought my vehicle in because the transmission failed while it was still under warranty, but they refused to honor the warranty and simply tried to get rid of me instead of helping. Their customer service was terrible, and the staff were rude and unprofessional. In my experience, they make promises about the warranty to sell cars, but when customers need warranty service, they don't stand behind it. I would never recommend this dealership to anyone. Save yourself the time, money, and frustration—buy your vehicle somewhere else. ”
“ This dealership is the worst I have ever encountered. I did not buy a car from them, but I went to have my vehicle (which was still under warranty) inspected. Unfortunately, they outright refused to honor the warranty and just wanted to get rid of me. The staff were extremely rude, and I strongly advise against dealing with them under any circumstances. Do not buy from them at all." ”
“ This was one of the worst dealership ”
“ Great experience and easy to deal with. Tyler did a great job engaging with us. Thank you. ”
