Tires are a critical part of your vehicle. As the only part of the car that directly comes into contact with the road, making sure they are fully functional is essential to safe driving. At River City Hyundai, we have a full-service tire center and work with every driver's needs from buying to maintaining them right here in Edmonton. With our extensive inventory of tires from only the top-tier brands, you will get nothing less than quality here. And with our fully-staffed service center, you will get the entire range of maintenance and service to keep your tires safe and reliable.

Tire Maintenance & Service for Your Hyundai

At the River City Hyundai service center, our service technicians are trained in all manners of tire maintenance, from checking pressure to regular rotation and selecting the correct options for replacements on your vehicle. As a part of each appointment, the tread of each tire will be examined and noted as a part of your records to monitor for wear.

When the tread has worn to the point where the tire will not pass the coin test, we will recommend replacement as soon as possible. We maintain a selection from top-tier tire brands including Goodyear, Michelin, and Bridgestone, ensuring we have something for a range of makes and models. So when you do get to the point of needing replacement, we can do that too.

Snow, Summer, and All-Season Tires: What’s the Difference?

While all-season tires can handle everything from the leaves of fall to the balm of early spring, snow tires are engineered to withstand the unpredictability of the roads of a Canadian winter. Specialized winter tires add an additional layer of tread when the road becomes more slick. Snow tires have three characteristics that make them different from all-seasons: tread rubber, patterns and edges. While all-season tire rubber stiffens in colder temperatures, reducing its level of traction, the rubber used to manufacture snow tires is engineered to maintain its flexibility and keep a better grip on the road. Tread patterns on winter tires are deeper and more elaborate to increase traction, and incorporated biting edges make it easier to maintain control on ice.

Summer tires have shallower and straighter patterns that maintain constant contact with the road and result in more exact handling in hot or wet conditions. And while summer tires can work well on wet roads, they do not provide any type of traction in snowy conditions or in the cold, as the rubber stiffens and loses all flexibility below freezing. Because the patterns are not symmetrical from tire to tire, rotation options are limited to encourage even wear.

For more temperate climates, all-season tires will be able to provide a smooth and safe ride. All-seasons will not be able to have the same level of grip or handling as winter or summer tires, but can perform well in rain and in light snow. If you do not anticipate driving in extreme weather conditions, all-season tires will be effective for your vehicle. And if you have any questions about what would work best for your vehicle and driving habits, we are more than happy to help you navigate the options.
